He was celebrated as a child prodigy early on, when at the age of two he taught five-year-old children how to write and do math. At the age of ten, he successfully took part in the International Mathematical Olympiad, coming in at third place. One year later, he was awarded second place and at the age of twelve he finally managed to win the competition, making him the youngest gold medalist in the International Mathematical Olympiad to this day.

His mathematical talent was also already evident at the age of eight, when he achieved an SAT test result of 760, proving that he was smarter than an above-average freshman. His parents quickly took young Terence Tao out of school and enrolled him at Princeton University, where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the age of 16. It took him another four years to complete his doctorate, finally earning his PhD at the age of 20. Today, he is a professor at UCLA in Los Angeles, California.
